The Kiribati Flag

I think the Kiribati Flag is one of the most well designed flags in all of the world. It uses lots of curved lines and round curvy shapes which give off a peaceful and calm aura to the flag. This flag uses red, yellow, white, and (navy) blue. The red symbolizes the power and courage of this small island country. The yellow means peace and happiness. The white also represents peace and harmony. While blue, symbolizes determination, liberation, and good fortune. Overall, just from this flag you know this country honors peace and happiness above all else. The sun in the center incorporates sharp edges however, and emphasizes the importance of the sun and what is stands for to this culture.

There are 3 white waves that symbolize the three groups of islands Kiribati is apart of. The 17 sun rays represent the other 16 Gilbert islands for which Kiribati is apart of. The bird shows command of the sea and power on the pacific ocean. Sir Arthur Grimble designed this flag in 1932 for the Gilbert and Ellice island groups for the British colony. I personally love this flag, a lot of other countries have basic shapes for their flag designs. I love this flag because it feels originally and authentic to the country from which it came. I did not know Kiribati was an island before doing this research and just looking at the flag I knew this would be an island country. I feel like flags should give you that kind of information just by one glance, a lot of other countries are not this way.
